Usage

npm install @tkrotoff/bootstrap-floating-label

Import bootstrap-floating-label.scss after bootstrap.scss:

@import '~bootstrap/scss/bootstrap';

@import '~@tkrotoff/bootstrap-floating-label/src/bootstrap-floating-label';

Place <label> under <input> inside your Bootstrap code:

Limitations

There is no good way to detect if the user entered text inside an input using CSS.

Thus a placeholder is required <input placeholder=" "> otherwise the label will be above the input instead of inside (see https://codepen.io/tkrotoff/pen/KjgyZj).

Comments

If input has a default `value` attribute then the floating label doesn't transition

If you have an input with a value and a placeholder, and then delete the inputs value (e.g. select all + hit backspace), then the transition doesn't occur.

Usage with input group?

First of all, thanks a lot for your work on this. It is exactly what I was looking for.

I got it working with Select inputs without much trouble (effectively just treat select as the placeholder and add a class to stop the label from covering the field after selection), but input groups have stumped me a bit.

Adding an extra div to hold the class around the input/label kinda works, but in the end isn't suitable as it breaks the "connected" formatting of the input group.

Usage with a prepended input group results in the label covering the start of the group instead of remaining contained within the input (the main problem)

Usage with an appended input group is almost perfect outside of the label overlapping whatever is at the end on small displays and the focus outline somehow overlapping the small label (both of these could be solved with z-index if I had to)

I'm not super skilled with SCSS/CSS so was interested if you had any ideas.

select does not support lg and sm sizes

Right now we only support input and textarea, not select as well.

Latest version does not include mixin for bootstrap 4 support

Right now you use this mixin:

@mixin border-start-radius($radius: $border-radius) {
  @if $enable-rounded {
    border-top-left-radius: valid-radius($radius);
    border-bottom-left-radius: valid-radius($radius);
  }
}

I think you should include this in the top of the file of src/_input-group.scss otherwise you get this error and have to manually add it. Or at least add to the README this note!
