MLPleaseHelp is a simple ML resource search engine.

How To Use

You can use this search engine right now at https://jgreenemi.github.io/MLPleaseHelp/, provided via Github Pages.

Building Locally

In the same directory as the index.html page, open a terminal and start an HTTP server:

$ python -m http.server

Now open your web browser to the page http://localhost:8000 and off you go!

Contributing

You can contribute resources to this repo! All the entries are a static list in js/ml-assets.js, so making new entries is as easy as adding a name, description, link and some keywords, then opening a Pull Request.

What should a new resource entry look like?

All entries should look similar to the following:

{
    "Name": "Parris",
    "Description": "Parris, the automated infrastructure setup tool for machine learning algorithms.",
    "Link": "https://github.com/jgreenemi/Parris",
    "Keywords": "Python, AWS",
    "LastUpdatedDate": "2018/01/28",
},

Known Issues

    ADD roadmap to ML

    Full disclaimer, this is my own article. However, I have nothing to gain from it. My blog is open source, no ads, no affiliate links, nothing. It was well received by /r/LearnMachineLearning, and I wrote it to help people get started. I think it would make a great addition to your list.

  • The search phrase

    The search phrase "class" returns all results.

    I suspect this is a side effect of the search logic taking each resource's div tag and searching the text for matches of the search words, since there is a class property in each of those elements. Since "class" is a valid search phrase when looking for resources from educational facilities/school-provided resources, this limitation should be removed.

    This will probably involve pulling the .text from each tag and using that as the search, rather than simply grabbing the #resource_box object's div children, and as such is not a terribly involved task.

  • Internet Explorer JavaScript compatibility issue.

    Internet Explorer JavaScript compatibility issue.

    When running the page in Internet Explorer version 11.2007.14393.0, there is an issue where values pulled from the JavaScript dictionary-like object for each resource in ml-assets.js fails with the following error:

    SCRIPT1004: Expected ';'
    ml-display.js (16,26)

    This appears to be because IE does not support loop logic like for (var mlAsset of mlAssets){}. It does appear to support for (var mlAsset in mlAssets){}, but this is not used as is not compatible with Google Chrome. Given that Chrome browser adoption is greater than that of Internet Explorer, I'm not inclined to change this behaviour unless I can find an approach that satisfies both browsers, as well as Firefox and Opera.
