Integrations

Third party developers have created plugins for platforms which allow Select2 to be integrated more natively and quickly. For many platforms, additional plugins are not required because Select2 acts as a standard <select> box.

Internationalization (i18n)

    For some reason I can't seem to find anywhere in the docs nor in the code itself an option to make a single value (where you have the text input below the button/select that is being clicked) appear as the multiple value select, where there is no additional button or styling to the text box.

    Virtual keyboard showing up always

    If select2 is used the virtual keyboard is showing up always if a user opening or closing an select.

    It's caused at least by two reasons: a) focus is called on search input field on opening select (line 1785 in select2-3.4.1) b) focus is called on focusser input field on close (line 1808), focus (line 1817), cancel (line 1830)

    The virtual keyboard is also showing up if search is disabled by minimumResultsForSearch. So users of mobile devices get virtual keyboard but can't input something. Also virtual keyboard is overlaying select options. So select is nearly not usable on mobile device.

    Prevent select2:open when clearing selection

    Prevent catching the click (and disallow opening of the select or triggering the select2::open) when the clear indicator is pressed to clear the selection when allowClear is true.

    This behavior worked fine in 3.5.2 - not sure if there is a reason for this.

    Use case: When allowClear is true and one clicks the selection clear indicator -- the value gets cleared but it also triggers the dropdown to open again when it is not necessary.

    Select2 is slow on opening

    I'm finding Select2 is quite slow when opening its dropdown menu if the underlying select has a fair number of items. Am I right in guessing it is (re)creating the HTML/DOM for this dropdown each time it is invoked? Wouldn't it make more sense to cache this and only redraw it if the underlying select changes?

    On this page: https://select2.github.io/examples.html

    ...All the tags appended to the end show up in an arbitrary place in the Select2 box. There seems to be no rhyme or reason where they will appear, neither alphabetical nor sorting by list matching. It just randomly sorts each time. This seems to be the reverse of issue #2283, so I'm not sure how to actually force the tags to append.

    When initializing select2, options can be provided by using the data parameter in the constructor.

    Thereafter, selections (not options) can dynamically be altered by using the data api; for example

    I am attempting to migrate from Select2 3.5.2 to Select2 4.0.0rc1

    I have current code which uses InitSelection to prepopulate values

    But i see that this is being deprecated which makes sense, initselection focused on input val, where 4.0.0 will be migrating to the select element

    The point is, I can find no documentation on how this is accomplished

    Is there any intention to incorporate a standard multiple select drop down with checkboxes / toggle states at any point? - Specifically like this -> http://www.erichynds.com/jquery/jquery-ui-multiselect-widget/

    It would be nice to have as a core option without hacking around the formatting with injected checkboxes and custom event handlers to catch the behaviours needed with the current select2 library.

    I think this is the better plugin I've ever used ;)

    My question is related to the 'required' attribute.

    let me explain better I have a html page like this:

    When I click on the submit button of the form containing the select above, I see the internal browser's message "Please select an element from the list". That's right, because I want browser shows the message.

    The problem is that the message is not correctly shown, maybe caused by "display: none" of the original select when I do: $("#myId").select2()

    Is there a way to avoid this annoyance?

    IE breaks when using a multiple select with a placeholder

    I am new to using Select2. I do not see this bug listed so apologies if one is already created.

    I consider this a high priority bug as IE11 is a modern browser. (I do not see a priority option on this page so assume github does not support such feature?)

    This bug appears in the following browsers: - IE11 (real) IE10 (from IE11 compatibility mode)

    IE9 and earlier (from IE11 compatibility mode) does not appear to have this bug.

    Firstly, you can replicate this bug simply by going to https://select2.github.io/examples.html. Go to the Placeholders section, This is the 3rd section after 'The basics' and 'Multiple select boxes'. In IE11, simply click on the multiple select box. This is the box underneath the comment about the Placeholders.js polyfill. Now click outside the select box to lose focus.... It forces itself back into the select box.

    One of the few ways to stop the items from popping up is to select an item in the list. However, once you have deleted all items (so there is nothing left) -- your back to the problem.

    I believe this provides enough information to replicate the problem. Of course, if you have any further questions -- please feel free to shout!

    Edit: -- It looks like this issue is tied to using the placeholder in a multiselect.. For example, the multi select in the 'Programmatic access' section, which does not use a placeholder, appears to be working fine.

    • You can use more specific locales (like en-US) and Select2 will be able to determine what translation files to load.

    • The full build of Select2 no longer includes jQuery - You must include jQuery separately on your page.
    • Select2 will prevent the inner scrolling of modals (and other scrollable containers) when it is open to prevent the UI from breaking. Read more at the commit.
