Overview

Hacktoberfest 2021 Swag List

Hacktoberfest is the celebration of Open-Source, its that time of the year when people from all over the world come together to contribute to their favorite Open Source projects. To make the deal sweeter some organizations give out cool swags like tshirts, stickers and much more! This page aims to consolidate all the swag opportunities in one place and make it easier for you to choose from. Always remember, Hacktoberfest is about making "meaningful contributions" any kind of SPAM/HATRED is a big NO and isn't tolerated. Create PRs that add value and take home the sweet swags!

You can read more about Hacktoberfest here. If you are a part of an organization listed below and dont wan't your swag to be listed, please contact me by raising an issue on the official repository and it will be taken down immediately.

Raising Issues

Please use the appropriate template while raising an issue. There are mainly 4 types of templates available: New Swag Opportunity, Takedown Request, Bugs and Feature Request. Provide all the information asked in the given template for faster resolutions

Adding a swag to the list

Found a swag opportunity we don't have yet? You can easily add it using the following steps:

Go to the swag list JSON file: https://github.com/monizb/hacktoberfest-swag-list/blob/main/src/list.json
Look for the first letter of the organization which is giving this swag: For example let's take TEST COMPANY as an example, we will open the corresponding array and add an object to it as follows:

Once done you can now raise a Pull Request to the main branch and Netlify will create a preview of your PR and then will be merged accordingly.Never delete or change any existing swag listings from the JSON file.

Add a search box to filter swag opportunities

Describe the solution you'd like Add a simple search box on top of the list to filter out results from Both name of the organization and from the swag tags as the user is typing in the search query

Fix the tags by center aligning them under mobile view.

UI/UX Improvement

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. When the page is visited all the tags look the same to eye, which is hard to be able to distinguish between them.

Describe the solution you'd like A much cooler way to show tags would be to color code them.

Describe alternatives you've considered Any other way to enhance the visibility is also welcomed!

Add a Pageview/Hit Counter

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. There is no page view/hit counter currently showing the number of visitors to the page

Describe the solution you'd like Use an external library or anything else that fits the theme and shows the total visitor count to the Swag List

SW | 37 | feat(UI/UX): redesigns tags by color coding them
Also associates tags by appropriate emoji

The colors are chosen as per the theme of the overall app.

A purple heart emoji is shown for new tags.

Add a difficulty sort

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Right now every swag opportunity has a key: "no_of_prs": 1, which tells the minimum number of PRs required to achieve the swag

Describe the solution you'd like Add a sort button to sort the list based on Most difficult --> Least difficult and vice versa, we should also be able to remove the sort and get back the normal list

Add a tag filter to the list

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Right now when the swag tags are clicked on nothing happens

Describe the solution you'd like When the tag is clicked for example "Tshirt" then the list should filter out all the organizations which are giving out Tshirts as swag
